Course Description

This class is an essay club, specifically an essay-reading club. Think of it as a normal reading club... but with essays. This is for you if you want a little more lively discussion in your life. I'm teaching this class because I want that, and I want to widen my perspectives on life!

The class format will look as follows:

Each week, we will start with idle conversation. Then, we will see if everyone had the chance to read the essay. While that is the expectation, life is sometimes hard to plan around, so we'll catch up anyone up who didn't read or only had the chance to skim it. Once we're all caught up, we'll see if anyone immediately had strong reactions and thoughts to that week's essay. Then, there will be a series of discussion questions. Some will apply to all essays, such as the following:

Does this essay have any relevance for your personal life?
What will you do differently?

There will always be some targeted discussion questions specific to the actual essay.
We'll likely grab a beer nearby afterwards; very optional, very fun.

Essay list: Full list TBD, and I am very open and flexible to suggestions, especially very topical and germane essays, or anything that is locally specific to us in San Diego. Tentative list as follows:

Your Instructor

Cornel is interested in too many things, and wants to keep learning about even more of them. He also wants to engage more with the people around him, and host fun things. This is a good mix of the two!
