Public Power 101 is the second iteration of the popular education style, six-week course that dives into the history, philosophy, and path to public power in San Diego. Together, we’ll unpack why our SDGE bills are so high, explore the role of transformational solidarity in building a broader social movement, and map out the pathway toward a publicly owned not-for-profit electric utility.
Each week combines presentations with group dialogue and applied learning, creating space for participants to share their own knowledge, ask tough questions, and imagine how we can win public power together. If you’ve ever looked at your electric bill and wondered “Why is it like this?” or wanted to be part of the solution, this class is for you.
I’m Isaiah Glasoe, a program coordinator with Public Power San Diego. For the past few years I’ve been working on the SDGE problem through grass-roots payment strikes, ballot initiative campaigns, rate-payers unions, and now the Public Power San Diego educational campaign. I’m excited to learn alongside you and grow this movement together.
I will be joined by several co-presenters who are dedicated public power advocates, activists, and experts.
