Course Description

This is a discussion group for those who have felt an itch, a pull, maybe even a twinge of guilt, towards getting more involved in the work of improving our world.

This discussion session might be for you if you:

  • Feel fired up about the state of the world/our country/our city and would like to be a part of the solution
  • Are anxious or overwhelmed by the flood of bad news and want to break through overwhelm by connecting with others and taking action
  • Have feelings of guilt or cognitive dissonance, knowing that you want to be making a difference but have not yet taken action to do so, either because you are not sure how or because you are busy with everyday life.
  • Are unsure of what difference you can make as an individual and are willing to learn
  • Are seeking a community of people who want to have a hand in creating a better, more joyful, and more equitable world

The problems facing our world are overwhelming, and the landscape of activism, mutual aid, volunteering, politics, etc. is vast. This, in addition to the struggles of every day life, leads to paralysis, complacency, and inaction. This discussion group is intended to support each other in overcoming these challenges and taking action. Together we will identify what motivates us, what organizations are out there, different ways to get involved or contribute, and develop our theories of change. We will then pick an organization or a project to explore and report back in our final discussion session.
